2016 Ford Expedition
Behind every sport utility vehicle is the idea of providing the most flexibility and versatility possible, while retaining the comfort and technology found in typical passenger vehicles. No SUV on the market does this better than the full-size 2016 Ford Expedition, which celebrates two decades of providing off-road prowess and towing and hauling capability. The four-door SUV is available in three trims: XLT, Limited, and Platinum.
Incredible Versatility, With Plenty of Comforts
Where many crossovers and SUVs have moved towards curvy, car-influenced styling, the 2016 Ford Expedition is large, muscular, and masculine, with truck-influenced design. It is fairly minimalist, with tall sides and a lack of curves or style lines. Whether you opt for the regular Expedition or the longer Expedition MAX, which adds an additional 376 millimeter of length, the overall look is the same, with the MAX still looking proportional. The front fascia is simple, with the trademark blue oval in the middle of horizontal bars, straddled by front-facing headlights that doesn't push back into the fenders. This helps to keep the Expedition looking more like the F-150 body where it derives its look. Heated exterior mirrors, which helps when it comes to clearing off snow and ice in the winter, come in either black, body-colour or chrome, depending on your trim choice. The exterior is further highlighted by chrome door handles, bodyside and wheel-lip moulding, and a variety of wheel choices, ranging from 18- to 22-inch aluminum. Running boards are standard - and are quite helpful for stepping up into the tall cabin - and available as body-colour or polished-steel, along with the option of power-deployable or standard in-place. Tie your extra-large equipment to the standard roof rack, which is perfect for skis, kayaks, and snowboards. For loading cargo, the power liftgate helps when you have your hands full, requiring less effort to open. The Platinum edition receives unique features including satin-finished highlights on the liftgate and grille and PLATINUM badging.
Seat up to eight passengers inside the spacious interior of the 2016 Ford Expedition with a bench seat in the second row, or choose bucket seats for a bit more room with seating for seven. Cloth upholstery is standard, with leather optional while the interior trim is mainly soft-touch plastics and metal. Woodgrain accents are optional, while the Platinum trim level brings unique upholstery and trim, plus the addition of the PLATINUM logo throughout the interior. Passenger and cargo space is copious, with ample leg and headroom in the front two rows, while the third row also features roomy passenger space. Upgrade from the standard Ford SYNC enhanced voice recognition communications and entertainment system to the SYNC 3 system, which swaps in a 8-inch LCD touchscreen for the standard 4.2-inch screen, and adds an upgraded stereo system and an extra smart-charging USB port. A navigation system provides directions if you get off track, while an available a dual headrest DVD entertainment system will keep the passengers from getting bored.
Impressive Power
The single powertrain in the 2016 Ford Expedition combines the 3.5-litre engine engine, six-speed transmission and full-time Control Trac 4-Wheel Drive for class-leading towing and hauling. The Expedition can tow up to 4,173 kilograms when properly equipped, and is one of the few large SUVs with genuine off-road capabilities.
